1. How did your bands name become to be? Who came up with the name? What inspired it?
When Isabel (bass/grim vocals) joined the band in 2003 we didn’t have a name so she got the idea of using this name, the rest of the band liked the name very much because it fits us perfectly. I will define the word matriarch as a society ruled by woman, a woman in power, beauty and intelligence all combine.

2. Give us some history on the band.
Matriarch started in January of 2002, we released our first and only demo in the summer of 2003 called “Black Apples”. In 2003 we recorded one song called “Sinful Decadence”, also we played for the first time in the US on January. In 2004 we recorded the song “Profanity” and went back to the US on March. Unfortunately Ara (guitars/low vocals) left the band on the summer of 2006. Now we are working with our first full length album to be released on spring. We are currently a three piece band composed of Vanessa (guitars/soprano), Isabel (bass/grim vocals), and Shamara (drums/low vocals).

3. Have you toured the USA? If so, How does the USA embrace your band when on stage.
Yes, we have played in Florida twice. In 2004 we played in Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, and Jacksonville with some bands like Mortician, Arsis, and Incantation. In 2005 we played in Orlando and Tampa, the people liked a lot our music and style, they were really surprised that we were all girls, you now must of the metal scene thinks that this job is only for guys, but they are wrong. There are good female bands as well as male bands, it doesn’t matter, what matters is playing what you like and enjoy.

4. Is it hard to get accepted as a serious musician in the male-dominated Heavy Metal world?
I will have to say no because people support us all around the world, but people support us more way more in the US and Europe than here in Puerto Rico, there is a lot of “machismo” in this island. I think is because we are the only female death metal band here, and they think this is a “male territory”, but we have always proved them wrong.

5. Spread the word on what your slicing up for the future as far as your band.
Right now we are currently working on our debut album “Revered unto the ages”, that will be released on spring 2007, just visit our website for more news about the CD and the band.
